Heaven Can Wait  -  Urinetown  -  Proof

Guys & Dolls  -  Cactus Flower

Sept 10 - Oct 4, 2009 - Comedy

   Heaven Can Wait

   by Harry Segall

Preparing to depart to Heaven, Joe Pendleton refuses to admit he has died and insists that the heavenly gatekeeper check the “records” to prove he should leave.  Mr. Jordan, our guide, finds Joe is not scheduled to arrive for another 60 years, and proceeds to return Joe to his original body.  However, Joe’s body has been cremated, so Mr. Jordan tries to find another body for Joe.  The fun begins as Joe enters different bodies and tries to restart his old life.

Oct 29 - Nov 22, 2009 - Musical

   Urinetown

   by Mark Hollmann, Greg Kotis

Winner of a Tony award for Best Original Score and Best Book, Urinetown lampoons musical theatre at the same time as it reveals a deep knowledge and love of it.  A terrible water shortage has crippled the city, and in a mad attempt to regulate consumption, the government has outlawed the use of private toilets.  When our hero decides he’s had enough of pay toilets, he leads a revolution to overthrow the company that operates them.

Feb 11 - Mar 7, 2010 - Drama

   Proof

   by David Auburn

Proof explores the unknowability of love as much as it does the mysteries of mathematics.   A troubled young woman must deal with her father’s death, the arrival of her estranged sister and the attentions of a former student of her father’s.  Although her father was thought to be unstable and to have produced nothing of worth in his later years, his student hopes to find value in his notebooks.   Surprises await as our heroine reveals her own mathematical genius.

Apr 1 - Apr 25, 2010 - Musical

   Guys & Dolls

by Jo Swerling & Abe Burrows,

        Frank Loesser

In this much loved musical “fable of Broadway,” based on the New York of Damon Runyon that never sleeps, we find a motley crew of gangsters, gamblers, Salvation Army do-gooders and chorus girls.  Guys and Dolls is one of the greatest successes that the American musical theatre has ever known.  The songs (“I’ve Never Been In Love Before”, “If I were a Bell”, “Luck Be a Lady.”) live forever and romantic images of a bygone  New York breathe again on stage.

May 20 - June 13, 2010 - Comedy

   Cactus Flower

   by Abe Burrows

Toni Simmons believes that the only reason her married lover won't leave his wife is because of his children. In truth, her lover, Julian, doesn't have any. In fact, he doesn't even have a wife - he just tells women he does to avoid getting involved. When Julian does decide to take the plunge with Toni and insists on meeting the first wife, Julian enlists the aid of his long-time nurse/receptionist to play the part.    A delightful comedy with crazy, mixed-up situations.
